In 2024, the budget of Almaty received 1 trillion 874 billion tenge in taxes and payments, which is 24% higher than the previous year. Nearly 70% of this revenue came from small and medium-sized enterprises, as reported by the city’s akimat press service. As previously noted by Almaty’s akim, Yerbolat Dosaev, more than 85% of the total workforce in the city, or around 942,000 residents, are employed in the SME sector.
According to the akimat, the total city budget for 2025 exceeded 2.2 trillion tenge. The development budget of Almaty also increased this year to 458 billion tenge. More than 40% of the budget is allocated to the social sphere (894.3 billion tenge).
In December 2023, it was planned that the budget of Almaty for 2024 would amount to 1 trillion 624 billion tenge. Of this, 1.1 trillion tenge (68.4%) was to be allocated for current expenses, while 233 billion tenge (14.4%) was earmarked for city development.
On December 6, 2024, Fitch Ratings confirmed Almaty's credit rating at BBB+, with a "Stable" outlook.
