Kazakhtelecom has repurchased its bonds worth 59 billion tenge, originally issued at the end of 2024.

"Kazakhtelecom" repurchased its bonds on the Astana International Exchange Ltd, which were issued about two weeks ago. This transaction took place on January 17. "The total value of the repurchased bonds amounted to 59 billion tenge, and the total paid reward was 0.5 billion tenge," according to the telecom operator's information dated January 20.

It is worth noting that on December 30, 2024, "Kazakhtelecom" approved its second bond issuance worth 59 billion tenge within a bond program totaling 100 billion tenge. The nominal value of one bond was set at 1,000 tenge.

A month earlier, on November 1, "Kazakhtelecom" issued 41 million bonds on AIX at a price of 1,000 tenge each. The total size of the issuance amounted to 41 billion tenge.

The coupon rate for the telecom operator's bonds was established at 15.25% per annum with a maturity period of three years.

According to the press service of "Kazakhtelecom," the funds raised from the bond issuance were intended to finance the investment program and working capital, as well as to refinance obligations.

When asked about the reasoning behind the decision to repurchase the bonds, the company did not provide a response at the time of publication.

Major shareholders of "Kazakhtelecom" include the National Wealth Fund "Samruk-Kazyna" with a 71.32% stake in the equity and Jusan Bank with an 8.1% stake.

According to the consolidated financial statements for 2023, "Kazakhtelecom" earned 104.4 billion tenge.

Currently, the company comprises eight subsidiaries: LLP "KT-Aix" (100% ownership), LLP "Vostoktelecom" (100% ownership), LLP "Center for Development of Digital Economy" (100% ownership), LLP "Nursat+" (100% ownership), LLP "KT-Telecom" (100% ownership), OP "Phoenix Fund Limited Partnership" (49.98% ownership), Caspinet B.V. (50% ownership), and JSC "Kcell" (51% ownership).

On January 14, it was reported that "Kazakhtelecom" completed a transaction to sell a 100% stake in the authorized capital of LLP "Mobile Telecom-Service," which operates in Kazakhstan under the brands Tele2/Altel, to the Qatari holding PIH Communication LLC.
