On January 10, the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, met with the Chairman of the Board of JSC "NC "KTZ" Nurlan Sauranbaev. The head of KTZ reported on the national company's performance in 2024.

— The operational freight turnover reached 272 billion ton-kilometers. A record volume of cargo was transported through the Kazakhstan-China junctions—32 million tons, which is 13.1% more than in 2023. — Container transit increased by 8.8%. The number of containers transported amounted to 1.4 million TEUs.

Sauranbaev also reported on the progress of major infrastructure projects and noted that over 2800 km of highways have been repaired to date.

— More than a thousand kilometers of new lines are under construction: Dostyk—Moinyty, Darbaza—Maktaaral, and a bypass around the Almaty hub. The construction of second tracks on the Dostyk—Moinyty section and the bypass line from Zhetygen to Kazybek-bek is ahead of schedule and will be completed by 2025, the head of KTZ promised.

Sauranbaev also spoke about the expansion of the terminal network to attract cargo flows to Kazakhstan's corridors and the construction of new container hubs.

— The increase in transit from China via the Trans-Caspian route was supported by the launch of the Kazakhstan-China terminal at the dry port of Xi'an. The construction of terminals in the East-West direction has begun in Almaty, at the Azerbaijani seaport of Alyat, in the capital of Hungary—Budapest, and in the settlement of Selyatino near Moscow. Together with the Chinese partner—the port of Lianyungang—a container hub is being constructed in the port of Aktau, Sauranbaev reported.
