From August 18 to 22, 2025, Astana will host the World Library and Information Congress IFLA, reports Kazpravda.kz citing Kazakh Tourism

This major event in the field of librarianship will bring together around 4,000 delegates from more than 130 countries to Kazakhstan.

Holding the World IFLA Congress in Astana will be a significant step in strengthening Kazakhstan's position as a center for business tourism.

The international event aims to enhance the professional skills of library personnel and improve the quality of library and information services. The congress will serve as an important platform for bolstering the role of the library community in Central Asia.

“The President of the country emphasized at the meeting of the National Kurultai that the field of librarianship requires special attention and care. In this regard, holding the world congress in Kazakhstan is particularly relevant and significant. Participants of the congress will also have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with Kazakhstan's rich heritage and visit tourist sites and landmarks of the country. It is expected that this MICE event will generate around 2 million euros in revenue for Astana. The total profit is formed from delegates' expenses on accommodation, transportation, food, and other services. On average, one foreign guest spends about 1,400 dollars during their stay,” – states the released press release.

IFLA is the largest global professional organization for library professionals, which accumulates and analyzes best practices in librarianship from various countries, establishing international standards for information organization and library services.
