The court ruled in favor of the plaintiff: the cinema chain was ordered to pay the viewer approximately $1,840 for disrupting his evening plans, as reported by a correspondent from Kazpravda.kz citing Rg.ru.
An unusual "Bollywood" story unfolded in India: a young man sued a leading cinema chain in the country, claiming that they wasted his time by showing a 25-minute advertisement before the movie screening.
30-year-old Abhishek filed a lawsuit in the Bangalore court, demanding punishment for the PVR INOX cinema chain and the ticketing company BookMyShow. He explained that he bought several tickets for a movie scheduled to start at 4:05 PM, but actually began 25 minutes late due to the commercials. After the film, he needed to return to work and was counting on the credits to finish by 6:30 PM.
The court ruled in favor of the plaintiff: the cinema chain was ordered to pay the viewer approximately $1,840 for disrupting his evening plans.
“In the new era, time is viewed as money; each person's time is very valuable, and no one has the right to exploit the time and money of others,” states the court's decision.
However, it was decided not to penalize the ticket operator, as the service has no control over the advertisements.
In court, representatives of the cinema chain argued that the advertisements before the screening were necessary, including for latecomers to make it in time for the show. They also referred to their obligation to display government advertisements. However, the court was not convinced by these arguments.
