Air Astana has reached out to passengers with important information regarding flights to and from Aktau.

According to a report on the Telegram channel of Air Astana, the runway has been closed for clearing operations since February 27 at 12:00 due to adverse weather conditions. Consequently, flights KC 859 and 860 to/from Aktau have been delayed.

On February 28 at 6:00, the closure of the runway was extended until 12:00 due to icing, which may lead to further delays and cancellations of flights to/from Aktau.

The airline regrets the inconvenience caused to passengers due to circumstances beyond its control and urges passengers to check the status of their flights on the Air Astana website or app.

Passengers waiting for departures in the terminals were provided with drinks and meals. Out-of-town passengers were accommodated in a hotel, as reported by the airline, which also reminds travelers of the contact numbers available for any inquiries.

It is worth noting that earlier at a government meeting, the Deputy Minister of Transport spoke about a new service for compensation in case of flight delays in Kazakhstan. According to him, this will be a special service implemented in the airline ticket sales app that will allow passengers to insure against delays and receive instant compensation in the event of a flight delay.

Previously, in December, Mazhilis deputy Bakytzhan Bazarbek stated the need for stricter penalties for airlines whose flights are consistently delayed or rescheduled.
