“Kursiv” reported that Massimov's house in Astana was put up for sale. The starting price of the property is over 1.8 billion tenge. After Massimov's arrest in January 2022, 17.2 million dollars, gold bars, antiques, and 11 business-class cars were found in this mansion. The total area of the house is 2,877.7 square meters.
In April of last year, a court in Astana sentenced Karim Massimov to 18 years in prison for treason, attempted violent seizure of power, abuse of power, and exceeding official authority. His deputies – Anuar Sadykulov, Daulen Yergozhin, and Marat Osipov – also received sentences.
In early January 2022, the National Security Committee reported that they had detained the former head of the committee, Karim Massimov. The criminal case against him was classified as “top secret.” Karim Massimov was identified as the main organizer of the January events in Kazakhstan, which resulted in 238 Kazakh lives lost.
