A house in Astana, resembling one seized from Karim Masimov, failed to sell at auction.

The guesthouse listed for sale, whose photos match those taken at the seized property of Karim Massimov, was unable to be sold at auction, reports NUR.KZ correspondent.
Дом в Астане, напоминающий недвижимость Карима Масимова, не был продан на аукционе.

The auction was scheduled for today, February 25, at 10:00 AM. However, as stated in the lot description on the electronic trading platform, the auction did not take place.

"At the time of the auction's start, there were no registered participants for the sale object," the description notes.

The starting price for the guesthouse was 1,883,338,958 tenge. The residential building with a basement is located in the Nura district of Astana. The house, with a total area of 2,877.7 m², was constructed in 2008, according to documents, and has two floors in addition to the basement.

Recall that after the events of January 2022, Karim Massimov was relieved of his position as head of the National Security Committee, a role he held since 2016. Soon after, he was detained on suspicion of treason.

His former deputies, Anuar Sadykulov and Daulet Yergozhin, were also detained.

In August 2022, the National Security Committee announced the completion of the criminal investigation into the former leadership of the Committee.

In November, the case against Karim Massimov and his former deputies was forwarded to the court. On November 18, 2022, the trial of the ex-head of the National Security Committee began in Astana. On April 24, 2023, Karim Massimov was sentenced to 18 years in prison, with property confiscation, a lifetime ban from holding public office, and deprivation of rank.

His deputies received sentences ranging from 3 to 6 years in prison, along with a lifetime ban from holding public office.

It later became known that Karim Massimov filed an appeal, which altered the sentence: Massimov, Sadykulov, and Yergozhin will serve their time in a medium-security facility rather than a maximum-security one as previously determined.

Additionally, Karim Massimov's name appeared on a list of individuals associated with terrorism, and in November 2023, the press service of the National Security Committee stated that Massimov is suspected of another crime - money laundering and receiving a particularly large bribe. In June 2024, it was reported that Massimov was denied clemency.
