The Ministry of Education commented on the initiative to restrict TikTok in Kazakhstan.

In the corridors of the Senate, Deputy Minister of Education Svetlana Jumadildaeva commented on the proposal by lawmakers to restrict TikTok in Kazakhstan, as reported by NUR.KZ correspondent.
В Минпросвете прокомментировали инициативу по ограничению TikTok в Казахстане.

"In any case, any harmful content will affect a child, as well as an adult who has not developed critical thinking skills. Therefore, in this section regarding TikTok restrictions, I want to provide an example: the country that invented TikTok, China, allows its children to have screen time for watching TikTok of only 40 minutes per day, and there is content restriction - children can only watch educational and developmental content," stated Deputy Minister of Education Svetlana Jumadildaeva.

She added that the Ministry of Education will support only such initiatives.

It is worth noting that the issue of a possible platform ban has been raised multiple times in Kazakhstan. For instance, in April 2024, Culture Minister Aida Balayeva mentioned that the question of blocking any social network in Kazakhstan would depend on several factors. According to her, the ministry was considering the issue regarding TikTok.

Later, representatives of the platform responded to her statement.

In May, it became known that minors in Kazakhstan might have their access to registration in several social networks and messengers restricted. A project of the corresponding plan was published on the "Open NPA" portal.

In early October, during a senate meeting, Deputy Gennady Shipovskikh raised the issue of a possible TikTok restriction in Kazakhstan. According to him, certain content in the social network, which is popular among children and teenagers, can negatively influence behavior and lead to false ideals and addiction.

Later, the Ministry of Digital Development commented on the potential restriction of the social network, explaining that monitoring illegal content on the internet and restricting access to it is handled by the Ministry of Culture and Information.

Recently, Majilis Deputy Zhanarbek Ashimzhan supported his colleagues who had previously proposed limiting TikTok in Kazakhstan. He stated that excessive use of this platform leads to serious consequences - psychological, social, and educational.
