March 8th falls on a Saturday this year. This means that with a five-day work week, Kazakhstanis will have three consecutive days off – on the 8th, 9th, and 10th. With a six-day work week, the days off will only be on March 8th and 9th.
March 10th is a working day.
It is worth noting, as reported on the official UN website, that International Women's Day (March 8th) is celebrated around the world. This day recognizes the achievements of women regardless of national boundaries or ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic, and political differences.
The idea of celebrating International Women's Day first emerged in the early 20th century when the industrialized world was experiencing a period of expansion and upheaval, demographic growth, and the rise of radical ideologies.
Nevertheless, many perceive this holiday as a day of spring, feminine beauty, tenderness, soulful wisdom, and attention to women, regardless of their status or age, as noted by the website Calend.ru.
Previously, the Russian service of the BBC published a detailed article about the origins of this holiday and why it is celebrated specifically on March 8th.
Additionally, it should be mentioned that two weeks after March 8th, Kazakhstanis will enjoy long weekends in honor of Nauryz Meyrami. To find out how we will celebrate the spring equinox holiday, read here.
