In the Chinese city of Tangshan, the production of the first light rail transit (LRT) cars has commenced. These cars are set to feature an electric heating system, reinforced windows, and LCD monitors. The initial trains are expected to arrive in Kazakhstan by September 2025.

City Transportation Systems has announced that the first LRT rolling stock is being produced in China. An order has been placed for 19 units with the manufacturer CRRC Tangshan Co.

«Currently, the manufacturing and welding of the aluminum alloy body elements are underway. The first rolling stock units will be ready by the end of May. The first trains will arrive in September, after which testing will begin,» the CTS statement said.

Passengers can expect comfort and safety. The interiors will feature high-strength materials, including organosilicate leather and fiberglass composites.

To reduce noise, the following will be installed:

  • thickened windows and sound-absorbing elements;
  • elastic wheels with an increased diameter.

The trains are equipped with modern information systems:

  • external and internal displays;
  • LCD monitors showing the route, final and next stations, door opening direction, as well as emergency information.

«Considering the climatic conditions of the capital, the front window is equipped with an electric heating system with a temperature adjustment range. This prevents fogging during sudden temperature changes,» the company noted.

The four-section trains will accommodate more than 600 passengers at full capacity.

The entire LRT infrastructure in Astana is expected to be ready by August-September 2025, with full operation commencing at the beginning of 2026, previously reported the mayor of the capital, Zhenis Kassymbek. According to him, the construction of the overpass is nearly complete, and work on laying the rails is currently ongoing, with signaling installation set to begin in the spring.
