Kazakhstan and Belgium are strengthening their collaboration.

Kazakhstan's Ambassador to Belgium, Margulan Baymukhan, met with Birgit Stevens, the Director General for Bilateral Relations at the Belgian Federal Public Service for Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development, as reported by DKnews.kz.

During the negotiations, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing dynamic and multifaceted cooperation between Kazakhstan and Belgium.

The parties discussed a wide range of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, noting the high pace of interaction in the political, economic, and parliamentary spheres. Special attention was given to expanding trade and economic cooperation, considering Belgium's role as one of Kazakhstan's key investment partners. In this regard, both sides welcomed plans to hold a series of economic events, including the third meeting of the Kazakhstan-Belgium Business Council, which is scheduled for June 2025 in Brussels.

Particular attention was devoted to the cooperation between Kazakhstan and the EU, emphasizing priority areas such as transport connectivity, critical raw materials, digitalization, technological exchange and innovation, green energy, climate initiatives, and environmental protection. Special focus was placed on bilateral agreements and consular matters.

Within the framework of multilateral cooperation, the parties exchanged views on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation issues. The ambassador invited the Belgian side to participate in the Third Meeting of States Parties to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), which will be held in March 2025 in New York, chaired by Kazakhstan. Additionally, the Kazakh diplomat informed the Belgian side about the upcoming Astana International Forum, which will take place in May 2025.

The meeting confirmed the mutual interest of Kazakhstan and Belgium in deepening political dialogue, strengthening economic ties, and expanding cooperation in key strategic areas.

In 2024, the volume of mutual trade between Kazakhstan and Belgium reached 456 million USD (exports – 210 million USD, imports – 247 million USD).

Belgium is among the largest investors in Kazakhstan, with 1 billion USD in foreign direct investment in 2023, making it the 7th largest investor in our country.

Belgian companies such as “Ahlers”, “Kilfrost Europe NV”, and “Sarens” are expanding their presence in Kazakhstan. Currently, there are 76 companies with Belgian capital registered in Kazakhstan.
