A puddle of dark, foul-smelling liquid has alarmed the residents of Atyrau.

A spill of dark liquid near the oil refinery has alarmed residents of Atyrau, leading them to believe that a leak has occurred, reports the KTK television channel's website.
Жителей Атырау испугала лужа с темной и неприятной жидкостью.

Footage has begun to circulate online, showing an eyewitness revealing the area near the factory and a black puddle. He noted that the liquid emits an unpleasant chemical odor.

Experts from the local oil refinery and employees from the environmental department went to investigate. They collected samples and determined that the city's sewage system was to blame. There were no leaks at the oil refinery, which is operating normally.

The utility workers will have to address the emergency. Wastewater has started to overflow and poison the surrounding area with foul odors due to the sewage systems that have long needed repairs.

"We are currently conducting a major overhaul of the city's sewage systems, including the pumping stations. This pressure collector with a diameter of 400 millimeters is also included in this year's project. Work on replacing the pressure collector will begin here shortly," reported the head of the sewage pumping station service "Atyrau облысы су арнасы," Zhenis Kisimov.
