Mass withdrawal of deposits: Kazakhs have withdrawn significant amounts from their savings accounts.

As of the end of January, the population held 24 trillion tenge in bank deposits, while companies had 17.2 trillion tenge. This information is provided by the National Bank.

The volume of deposits from individuals decreased by 506.4 billion tenge over the month, while deposits from legal entities fell by 695.3 billion tenge.

In the top 5 largest banks in Kazakhstan, the following amounts are held:

  • Halyk Bank: individuals – 6.9 trillion tenge (-102 billion tenge over the month), legal entities – 5.4 trillion tenge (-122 billion tenge);
  • Kaspi Bank: individuals – 5.8 trillion tenge (-275 billion tenge), legal entities – 376 billion tenge (-280 billion tenge);
  • Bank CentrCredit: individuals – 2.8 trillion tenge (+5 billion tenge), legal entities – 2.4 trillion tenge (-66 billion tenge);
  • Otbasy Bank: individuals – 2.4 trillion tenge (-27 billion tenge), legal entities – 221 billion tenge (+63.8 billion tenge);
  • ForteBank: individuals – 1 trillion tenge (-46 billion tenge), legal entities – 1.7 trillion tenge (-47 billion tenge).

At Jusan Bank, which plans to be acquired by Vyacheslav Kim (chairman of the board of directors of Kaspi.kz), the volume of deposits from both individuals and legal entities does not reach one trillion tenge – 811 and 792 billion tenge, respectively (compared to a month ago – 824 and 868 billion tenge).

The Eurasian Bank also exhibited negative dynamics in January: deposits from individuals decreased by 7 billion tenge (to 1.1 trillion tenge), while deposits from legal entities fell by 58 billion tenge (to 994 billion tenge). In contrast, Freedom Bank saw an increase in deposits: from individuals – up by 14 billion tenge to 599 billion tenge, and from legal entities – up by 45 billion tenge to 512 billion tenge.

The amount of deposits in Bank RBK decreased to 575 and 940 billion tenge from 639 billion and 1 trillion tenge the previous month, while at Bereke Bank, deposits from individuals rose from 652 to 674 billion tenge, and deposits from legal entities declined from 857 to 845 billion tenge.

This indicates that only BCC, Bereke Bank, and Freedom Bank saw an increase in individual deposits. Legal entity deposits increased only at Otbasy Bank and Freedom Bank.
