The World Boxing Council (WBC) has officially ordered the middleweight champion according to their version, Dominican Carlos Adames (24-1-1, 18 KOs), to conduct a mandatory title defense, reports Sports.kz.
According to ESPN journalist and insider Salvador Rodriguez, the mandatory challenger for Adames has been declared as the undefeated Meirim Nursultanov (20-0, 11 KOs) from Kazakhstan. The timeline for their bout has not yet been disclosed.
As a reminder, on February 22, Carlos Adames successfully defended his title by drawing with British fighter Hamzah Shiraz (21-0-1, 7 KOs). Even before the fight, the WBC ruled that the winner would have to face Nursultanov. The Kazakh boxer is currently ranked third in the WBC standings.
