The construction of another CAP1000 reactor as part of a new energy project has commenced in the city of Lufeng, located in the southern province of Guangdong, reports a correspondent from Kazpravda.kz citing TASS.

The project, which involves the creation of six reactors, is being implemented by the China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN). A distinctive feature of this project is that all major modules are manufactured in factories and then assembled on-site in their final form. The assembly of reactor number 5 began in 2022, while the sixth reactor started in 2023.

Once all six reactors of this project are operational, they will generate approximately 52 billion kWh of electricity annually, significantly reducing carbon dioxide emissions equivalent to those produced by burning up to 15.77 million tons of coal. The construction of reactor number 1 commenced on February 24.

It is noted that power unit No. 1 is fully integrated with the design features of the third-generation pressurized water reactor CAP1000. Modular construction, digital building technologies, and automated welding will be utilized in its construction, enhancing safety and economic efficiency.
