Residents of Almaty and the surrounding region are advised to avoid traveling outside the city due to the storm.

Kazhydromet has issued a storm warning for residents of Almaty and the Almaty region. The storm is expected to last for three days, bringing strong winds, fog, and icy conditions. Authorities are urging Kazakhstani citizens to avoid traveling outside the city and to refrain from trips to the mountains.

“From 8:00 PM on March 3 to 8:00 PM on March 6, fog and ice are expected on the roads in the southern and mountainous areas of Almaty region. On the night of March 4, a strong western wind is forecasted in the southeast, with gusts reaching 18–23 m/s in the regional center. In Kunaev, fog is anticipated, along with icy roads and wind gusts up to 23 m/s,” – the message states.

In Almaty, meteorologists also predict icy conditions, increased wind, and fog.

“We urge citizens to refrain from traveling to mountainous areas due to adverse weather conditions,” – emphasized the regional Emergency Situations Department.

Previously, “Kursiv” reported that meteorologists warned Kazakhs about unfavorable weather on March 2 across most regions of Kazakhstan. According to “Kazhydromet,” snowfalls, blizzards, icy conditions, and fog are expected throughout the country.
