Most Greenlanders prefer not to join the United States.

The vast majority of Greenlanders—85%—oppose becoming part of the United States. This finding emerged from a survey conducted among local residents at the request of the Danish newspaper Berlingske. The island is home to just 57,000 people.
Большинство жителей Гренландии не стремятся к присоединению к США.

“A survey indicates that 85% of Greenlanders oppose joining the United States. Only 6% are in favor, and 9% are undecided,” reports the publication.

The survey results emerged after American President Donald Trump threatened Denmark with economic measures if Greenland is not handed over to the U.S.

Previously, a heated discussion took place between Donald Trump and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen regarding Greenland. During that exchange, Frederiksen emphasized that the island—an autonomous part of the Kingdom of Denmark—is not for sale, which triggered an outburst of indignation from Trump.

Earlier, “Kursiv” reported that Trump does not rule out the possibility of using military or economic measures to acquire the Panama Canal and Greenland. He also suggested applying “economic pressure” to make Canada the 51st state of the U.S.
