Last autumn, experts in Almaty agreed to establish a joint working group. Specialists are exchanging data on the current water levels and forecasts to take preemptive measures and reduce the risks of flooding.
“The operation of the Iriklinskoe Reservoir, located in the Orenburg region on the upper reaches of the Ural River, is under special control,” the statement reads.
The preparation includes continuous monitoring, regulation of discharges, and coordination between water management services of Kazakhstan and Russia. This will help minimize the consequences of floods and improve water resource management, as promised by the embassy.
Spring floods last year posed a significant challenge for Kazakhstan. A total of 224 settlements and 17,603 residential homes were affected. The government provided one-time social assistance (100 MRP) to 36,455 families, totaling 13.3 billion tenge.
In a report by "Kursiv," experts discussed how authorities could have reduced the damage from floods in Kazakhstan.
Floods are expected in 1,223 settlements in the country by 2025. The Ministry of Emergency Situations is actively preparing for this. This was also written about by "Kursiv."
