According to Orynbekov, the metal partitions that displeased the residents of Almaty were installed without using any budget funds. This is a temporary measure aimed at ensuring passenger safety.
“Currently, we are continuing the installation of temporary dividing structures between the train cars, while simultaneously conducting a series of testing activities,” said the director of the metro.
He mentioned that initially, stainless steel polished supports are being installed, onto which impact-resistant tempered glass partitions will later be mounted. The completion of the work is planned for the "nearest" future.
The metro director explained that the design documents for the existing stations did not include automated doors.
“Changes to these documents were made only in 2022. We were considering how to organize this process from the perspective of ensuring passenger safety. A systematic approach is necessary here, which is why platform partitions are already planned for the stations under construction and design,” added Orynbekov.
More time is needed to install automated doors.
“Therefore, as a temporary measure for passenger safety, temporary metal partitions are being installed,” emphasized Almasbek Orynbekov.
Previously, “Kursiv” reported that metal barriers appeared at Almaty metro stations. They were decided to be installed after the death of a 26-year-old visually impaired resident of Almaty who fell onto the tracks.
