“The city administration conducted an analysis and found that the existing bins with a capacity of 40 to 60 liters are inadequate for the large volume of waste on busy streets. As a result, the authorities decided to replace the old bins with larger models,” the statement says.
Thus, hyperboloid bins with an 80-liter capacity will be installed in parks and squares, while square and cylindrical bins will be placed on major streets in Almaty. At bus stops, metro stations, and underground passages, bins with a capacity of 120 liters will be set up.
Last year, the city administration reported that due to the rapid filling of containers, the authorities had to allocate additional routes for street cleaning.
“Kursiv” wrote in November of last year that Almaty decided to combat residents who dispose of bulky waste in unauthorized locations through video surveillance. Starting in 2025, 400 cameras are expected to be installed at waste disposal sites. Offenders will face strict penalties.
