A strong snowfall and blizzard have prompted a warning for the residents of Astana. Stay safe and be prepared for severe weather conditions.

Due to the heavy snowfall, the municipal services in Astana are conducting round-the-clock snow removal operations across all districts of the capital, reports NUR.KZ, citing the city's akimat press service.

According to information from the capital's akimat, published on the official Telegram channel, the snowfall and blizzard that began today will continue tomorrow.

"Heavy snowfall is being observed on the streets of the capital. This weather is expected to persist in the city for the next two days. On January 30 and 31, meteorologists forecast localized blizzards, increased winds, and a drop in temperature to -15...-17 degrees Celsius."

"Municipal services are conducting snow removal operations around the clock in all districts of the capital. On the night of January 30, 316 road workers and 1,557 units of special equipment were deployed for snow clearing. During the day shift on January 29, 51,284 cubic meters of snow were removed from the city with more than 4,000 truckloads," - the press service reported.

The akimat clarified that, according to regulations, areas with very high traffic are prioritized for clearing to avoid congestion on the roads. Areas of medium traffic intensity are also cleared, including squares, areas near train stations, sidewalks, and access routes to social facilities, among others. Additionally, cleaning of central streets, routes of public transport, stops, and sidewalks is given priority.

"We ask residents and guests of the capital to be cautious on the roads, follow safety rules, and refrain from long trips during storm warnings."

"In case of an emergency, call 112," - the statement advised.

As a reminder, meteorologists announced a storm warning in several regions of the country the day before, including in Astana.

Today, meteorologists reported that in the coming days, the weather in Kazakhstan will be influenced by a northwestern cyclone, with heavy precipitation and temperatures dropping to -28 degrees Celsius.
