Speed limits on the Karaganda-Astana highway will be reduced to 60 km/h.

During inclement weather, the speed limit on the Karaganda-Astana highway will be reduced to 60 km/h. This information was shared during a briefing at the Regional Communications Service, as reported by NUR.KZ citing the Akimat of Karaganda Region.
Скорость на трассе Караганда-Астана снизят до 60 км/ч.

According to the official website of the agency, traffic signs are being installed on the Karaganda - Astana highway, as well as on other republican highways, which will adjust the permissible speed under adverse weather conditions.

Under the new regulations, in cases of reduced visibility or icy roads, drivers will be required to lower their speed to 60 km/h.

The police department explained that this measure aims to reduce the risk of traffic accidents and prevent emergencies.

"During adverse weather conditions on republican roads, a special speed limit will be introduced. To capture violations of the speed limit, speed control and average speed cameras will be integrated," said Deputy Head of the Administrative Police Department Yelzhas Zhartaybaev.

Under normal conditions with good weather, the maximum speed on the highway remains unchanged at 140 km/h.

Regarding average speed, the police department clarified that it will be calculated by dividing the distance traveled by the time interval. Exceeding this indicator on straight sections of the road will be recorded by automatic monitoring systems. Currently, they are installed in test mode on 13 highways of the republic. Fines for violations will range from 5 to 40 MRP depending on the extent of the exceedance.

So far, no such violations have been recorded in the region, as the necessary equipment has not yet been installed.

Additionally, the differentiation of administrative responsibility for speed enthusiasts has changed.

"Article 592 of the Administrative Code has been supplemented with paragraphs 3-1 and 5. Previously, the maximum allowable speed exceedance was fixed at 40 km/h and above, with a single fine for this. Now, a driver exceeding the speed by 40-60 km/h will pay 20 MRP (78,640 tenge). For exceeding by more than 60 km/h, the law provides for a fine of 40 MRP (157,280 tenge). In the case of repeated exceedance by the same amount, the fine will increase to 60 MRP (235,920 tenge)," explained Yelzhas Zhartaybaev.

This innovation has been introduced based on an analysis of traffic accidents, where one in three fatalities on rural roads is due to speeding.

Remember, starting from December 4, a law on average speed control came into effect in Kazakhstan, aimed at reducing accidents on highways.

The Department of Internal Affairs of the Karaganda region reported that automatic complexes will primarily be located on highways and will be equipped with systems for recording vehicle speeds. According to Deputy Head of the Administrative Police Department Yelzhas Zhartaybaev, the first complexes are planned to be installed on the Karaganda - Astana and Karaganda - Balkhash highways in 2025.

It has also been revealed on which roads in Kazakhstan fines will be imposed for exceeding the average speed.
