The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Belgium, Margulan Baymuhan, held a meeting with the European Union's Special Representative for Human Rights, Olof Skoog.
During the meeting, a wide range of issues concerning cooperation between Kazakhstan and the EU in various fields was discussed, including human rights and the rule of law.
The Kazakh diplomat provided up-to-date information on political, economic, and social reforms aimed at strengthening the rule of law, protecting citizens' rights, and developing democratic institutions.
M. Baymuhan emphasized the significant progress made in the framework of reforms, including the adoption of the Law on the Ombudsman for Human Rights in Kazakhstan, the Law on Combating Domestic Violence, the expansion of political pluralism, and the implementation of new mechanisms for protecting the rights of vulnerable groups.
Special attention was given to the role of the Constitutional Court and the significance of the concept of a "listening state," which implies an open dialogue between citizens and the government.
The parties discussed the prospects for regular dialogue between the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights in Kazakhstan and the EU Special Representative for Human Rights within the "EU-Kazakhstan" and "EU-Central Asia" platforms.
As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached to maintain active connections to promote cooperation between Kazakhstan and the European Union on the human rights track and the development of civil society.
