Kazakhstan and the OSCE: new initiatives to promote media freedom.

The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to international organizations in Vienna, Mukhtar Tleuberdi, held a meeting with the newly appointed OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Jan Braathu, as reported by DKnews.kz.

The interlocutors discussed the current state and future prospects of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the OSCE in the area of media freedom protection and promotion, as well as aspects of enhancing the effectiveness of joint actions among participating states in this domain.

The Ambassador emphasized that Kazakhstan places great importance on adhering to the established principles and commitments regarding freedom of expression and media freedom. He expressed gratitude to his counterpart for the expert recommendations developed by the Office of the Representative on Freedom of the Media for the draft law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Mass Media," as well as for the recommendations concerning journalist safety.

J. Bratu, for his part, thanked the Kazakh side for supporting his candidacy and expressed his readiness to further strengthen cooperation with our country in promoting media freedom.
