The UN has assessed Kazakhstan's progress in human rights.

A meeting took place between the Minister of Justice of Kazakhstan and the Deputy United Nations High Commissioner, as reported by DKnews.kz.

The Minister of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Erlan Sarsembayev, and the Deputy United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Nada Al-Nashif, held a meeting in Geneva as part of the National Report of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review. A productive dialogue and exchange of views regarding mutually beneficial opportunities for strengthening human rights protection in Kazakhstan took place between the Minister of Justice and the Deputy High Commissioner.

During the meeting, various aspects of human rights in Kazakhstan were discussed. The parties exchanged insights on the work accomplished and shared experiences in improving the legal system. Special attention was paid to the recommendations made by the High Commissioner following his official visit to Kazakhstan in March 2023, as well as prospective areas for cooperation between governmental bodies and the Office of the High Commissioner.

As a result of the meeting, the parties reached an agreement on further collaboration in promising areas. The Kazakhstan delegation expressed its readiness to continue working in fields of mutual interest.
