In Geneva, Kazakhstan's strategic initiatives in intellectual property were discussed.

The Minister of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan held a meeting with Hasan Kleib, the Deputy Director General of WIPO, as reported by DKnews.kz.

On January 23, 2025, in Geneva (Switzerland), the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Erlan Sarsembayev, held a meeting with the Deputy Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Hasan Kleib. During the meeting, the parties discussed key areas of cooperation in the field of intellectual property development.

The Minister emphasized that partnership with WIPO is a strategic priority for Kazakhstan, which facilitates the advancement of the national intellectual property system and the intellectual potential of the region. Current projects and initiatives were reviewed during the meeting, including the establishment of new Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISCs), the implementation of WIPO's master's program in intellectual property and business, as well as Kazakhstan's participation in the WIPO ALERT project aimed at combating unauthorized online content.

The Minister highlighted the importance of the active steps taken by Kazakhstan in the field of intellectual property. Among these achievements is the approval by the Parliament of Kazakhstan on January 16, 2025, of the ratification of the WIPO Marrakesh Treaty, which marked a significant step in ensuring equal access for individuals with visual impairments to published works and confirmed Kazakhstan's commitment to international standards in this area.

The Minister underscored that, thanks to active collaboration with WIPO, Kazakhstan has improved its position in the Global Innovation Index, rising from 81st to 78th place, and intends to continue efforts to enhance this indicator.

Plans for conducting joint international events were also discussed, including the visit of WIPO Director General Daren Tang to Kazakhstan to participate in the Astana International Forum scheduled for May 29-30, 2025. For the first time, a separate panel session on intellectual property issues will be organized within the framework of this forum.
