Former UFC welterweight champion, British fighter Leon Edwards, is confident that he will secure a title fight if he succeeds in his match against Sean Brady at UFC Fight Night 255 in London on March 22, reports Sports.kz.
Initially, Edwards was scheduled to fight Jack Della Maddalena, but the Australian replaced Shavkat Rakhmonov in a bout against UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad on May 10. "Nomad" had to withdraw from the fight against Belal due to unresolved injuries.
— A couple of weeks ago, I spoke with UFC. I was trying to step in for Shavkat in the fight against Belal at UFC 315. I was told that they are selling the London event because of me. So, it was difficult to remove me from the card, as it would be strange for Jack Della Maddalena to headline the event in London. I talked to UFC, and they told me that this fight [with Sean Brady] is the number one contender fight, and the winner will then fight for the title. So, if I win, I will be fighting for the belt. That is my goal, — said Edwards on his YouTube channel.
It is worth noting that previously, UFC President Dana White stated that the winner of the fight between Belal Muhammad and Jack Della Maddalena would then defend his title against Shavkat Rakhmonov, who is ranked second in the welterweight division.
