A student from Kostanay created a project aimed at protecting bridges from damage during floods.

The project has already gained recognition by securing first place in the national competition for innovative ideas.

The press service of the Ministry of Education continues the series "100 жаңа есім — 100 новых лиц" (100 New Names — 100 New Faces). This time, the focus is on 10th grader Viktor Ryzhkov from the Alexandrovskaya school in the Kostanay region, as reported by Kazpravda.kz

According to the department, the student, under the guidance of teacher Vitaly Bazarikin, developed an innovative system called Smart Bridge, which prevents bridge collapse during sudden increases in water levels. The idea for the project came to Viktor after the spring floods of 2024.

The automated system responds to critical water level rises: sensors detect the threat, and a programmable Arduino microcontroller activates the bridge lifting mechanism, protecting it from destruction even in strong currents.

“My goal is to create a system that helps people and infrastructure be prepared for floods. During the project, we faced challenges in choosing the lifting mechanism, but we successfully implemented our idea,” says the 10th grader.

The development demonstrates significant potential for practical application. In the future, Viktor plans to enhance the model by adding a step-lifting function for the bridge and integrating a radio module that will automatically send notifications to emergency services, allowing for prompt responses to changes.

The project has already received recognition, winning first place in the national competition for innovative ideas "First Step Toward a Great Invention" in the nomination "Technical Design in Industry," the ministry noted.
