The American leader stated that the U.S. should have the right to half of the TikTok platform, as reported by Kazpravda.kz citing ТАСС
“I believe that the U.S. should have the right to half of TikTok,” he told reporters in the Oval Office on Monday.
The head of state also signed an executive order aimed at delaying the ban on this platform in the country for at least 75 days.
“I think we will have a joint venture with TikTok. Let’s see what happens. This is one of many ideas,” the American leader added.
“We will have 50% of TikTok, and TikTok will be allowed to continue its business,” he noted.
“We may need approval [for the deal] from China, I’m not sure,” Trump speculated. “But I’m confident they will approve it. And if not, it will be something like a hostile act.”
He also warned that Washington would be ready to impose tariffs on Chinese goods if Beijing opposes the TikTok deal.
In 2024, former U.S. President Joe Biden signed a law requiring the Chinese corporation ByteDance to sell TikTok to a U.S. company by January 19, 2025, to avoid a ban. On the night of January 19, the service completely ceased operations in the U.S. On the morning of January 19, Trump announced that on the day of his inauguration, January 20, he would issue an order to delay the TikTok ban in the country. By noon that same day, Eastern Time (10:00 PM Astana time), access to TikTok was restored. The service interruption lasted about 12 hours.
