Uzbekistan is preparing to launch a satellite in 2026 in collaboration with the Turkic States Organization. This was announced at a press conference in Tashkent by Mukiddin Ibragimov, the head of the aerospace development department at the "Uzbekkosmos" Agency, as reported by Kazpravda.kz citing Podrobno.uz.
Ibragimov noted significant progress in establishing infrastructure for working with space monitoring data. While in 2022 the idea of launching a domestic satellite seemed premature due to a lack of necessary skills and market, the situation has changed now. A market for processing satellite data has been formed in Uzbekistan, covering an area of 600,000 to 1 million square kilometers, encompassing both the public and private sectors.
Efforts are underway to create a satellite constellation for Earth observation. Simultaneously, a scientific satellite is being developed in collaboration with members of the Turkic States Organization. Uzbekistan is involved in creating the technological component of the satellite, which will be integrated into the overall project. The launch is scheduled for mid-2026.
Additionally, Ismoil Rasulov, the head of the "Uzbekkosmos" department, announced an agreement with the Kyushu Institute of Technology in Japan. As part of the collaboration, seven Uzbek teams will begin developing, designing, and assembling their own satellites in 2025.
Last week, Uzbekistan adopted a law regulating space activities in the country.
